Okay, actually, for real this time. The SF Chronicle published an article I wrote for their employment section in TODAY’S Sunday paper, and I am thrilled sideways, even if I had always imagined my first article would be written about something spectacularly awesome, like graphic novels set in the Middle East, which I could have done, if I were more aggressive about that sort of thing. But it isn’t. My first published article is officially on using career counselors. That is my own fault. My eventual entry on Wikipedia would have been way cooler if that were not my first article, but now my legacy will be slightly less splendid. Ah, well.

Published! I’ll post a link as soon as I can find one. For anyone over at the Chron who cares, your search engine sucks.

And now I must needs write another for the same section. Spoiler: it’s about multi-interviews. I know, I know, the anticipation is just killing you.

  1. Networking as a career coach is a very competitive field. Others told me that using interlinking websites might make a difference in getting found and recognized as an authority. Did you notice some positive effects with using this site?

  2. Well, you found me! 🙂

Frankly, a web presence is valuable, period, but not being a career counselor, I can’t speak to its effectiveness for that particular field. I will say that many people I’ve spoken to found that developing a blog with authoritative, well-researched blog articles helped to get them recognized. There’s an excellent article called 5 Ways to Ensure Your Blog is Serving Its Purpose over at Self-Made Chick at http://selfmadechick.com/2007/10/13/5-ways-to-ensure-that-your-blog-is-serving-its-purpose/

For myself, the positive effects I’ve noticed are high-quality advice and guidance, a supportive community of like-careered people, and greater traffic. However, I’d suggest making ‘career coach’ some enormous part of your blog’s keywords, which I have NOT done for writing, but that’s because I’m not targeting this blog to increase my clients, only to increase my network of peers.

    Hope all that helps.
